The Risk of Rain 2 Kickstarter campaign was launched earlier today by Hopoo Games, a development team made up of former BioShock developers at Pinch Point.
Risk of Rain is a popular indie game that has players fighting off hordes of monsters in procedurally generated levels as they seek to collect enough artifacts to defeat the final boss.
Risk of Rain 2 looks to expand on the original with better graphics, more items and equipment, and an even larger roster or playable characters. On top of all that great news, Risk of Rain’s lead developer, Paul Morse (formerly known as Liam), will be working at Hangar 13 where he’ll be supporting his new colleagues who are currently working on Mafia III!

About Risk of Risk 2
Risk of Risk 2 features four player online multiplayer co-op. The game takes place on a jungle planet where 19 characters are stranded alongside an unrelenting army of monsters that spawns at nightfall.
Up to five players can join up in each session and after beating the first level they’ll unlocked character specific missions which help players unlock new equipment for their characters.
This equipment will only last until the end of the current night cycle so its importance lies in making your character more powerful as well as allowing them to complete unique challenges during other nights.
The campaign also includes squad based real time strategy elements when your team is fighting off monsters. Risk of Risk 2 retains Risk of Risk 1’s unique time control mechanics though they have been expanded to include slowing down time, speeding it up, or pausing everything except for the player character (this mechanic can also be turned on or off).
The game takes place around four main hub areas. Lava themed area where players need to gather lightning artifacts in order to gain access to the second area which is an ice planet dominated by wolves.
This planet has players collecting ice artifacts and then defeating yetis in order to get into the third planet that features robotic enemies who drop technology based items like rocket launchers that shoot missiles filled with Jesus Christ.
The final level has players needing to get something called “space dust” from a planet that is completely covered in purple fog. Risk of Risk 2’s Steam page lists Risk of Risk 2 as being pre-alpha footage so we can expect plenty more content to be added before its 2017 release date for PC and Mac.
